It has been two weeks into free agency and there have been plenty of big signings and there have also been a couple trades as well. Over the past week though, everything has been quiet in the NHL as teams rosters seem to be set for the upcoming season. There still could be a few moves though before the season starts whether they are big or small. Who are the top five players that are most likely to be moved? Let's see.
James Reimer, Toronto Maple Leafs
Reimer has played in Toronto for a long time and now he wants out according to Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet. He was once the starter for the Leafs but after they collapsed against the Bruins in 2013, Dave Nonis decided to go in a different direction and sign Jonathan Bernier from the Kings to be the starter. It worked out very good as Bernier was great this year in Toronto. Reimer was the backup to Bernier and had a stretch where he didn't play well and people took it to twitter to give him a piece of their minds and it wasn't pretty. The asking price on Reimer is high but I expect that a deal gets done before opening night.
Tyler Myers, Buffalo Sabres
Myers has been on the trading block for awhile now and I also think this deal gets done. The team that I think will get him and has shown the most interest is the Detroit Red Wings who are desperate for a top four defenseman who shoots right. They missed out on Matt Niskaken, Dan Boyle, and Christian Ehrhoff who both either didn't want to go there or they didn't get the offer they wanted. In order for this trade to happen though, Detroit may have to part with some of it's young talent like Tomas Tatar or Anthony Mantha who the organization loves. We'll see if these talks heat up soon.
Evander Kane, Winnipeg Jets
Kane's situation in Winnipeg is very weird right now. He won't say it but it's obvious that he wants out of there. Even local hockey reporters are starting to notice it. Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff says right now Kane will be a Jet next season but declined to comment on the situation. The asking price is going to be sky high for Kane. I'd imagine it would be a top six player, a prospect and a draft pick or two. This is a situation that will be watched very closely as the season gets closer.
Rob Scuderi, Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh has a cap problem and they're going to need to solve it somehow. I think they should trade Rob Scuderi who had an awful year this past season. He's signed for an awful contract for the next three seasons but trading him could be tricky. He has a modified no trade clause which means he can only be sent to teams that he's selected he would go to. This would free up much needed cap space for the Penguins and also get rid of a guy who just wasn't good at all last season.
Michael Grabner, New York Rangers
This may be a longshot but you never know. Michael Grabner is one of the fastest skaters in the league but he didn't do that good last season. He could be traded by the Islanders to get another top four defenseman which they desperately need. New York is going to have to make a trade at some point to get a defenseman to help Travis Hamonic and Grabner would be perfect trade bait.
