Tyler Seguin is clearly living the dream. As a teenager, the young center had immediate success with the Boston Bruins, winning the Stanley Cup in his rookie season. The playoffs showcased the young star’s potential with some timely scoring and memorable play. Though he was benched through the first two rounds, an injury got Seguin on the ice and he made the most of it.
Of course there was the natural drop off the following year, for the Bruins. For Tyler Seguin, the defense of Lord Stanley was also his coming out party. After only 11 goals and 22 points his rookie campaign, Seguin attacked the next season like it owed him money.
Floating between center and right wing, Tyler Seguin has said he likes to model his game after teammate Patrice Bergeron. While Bergeron plays a solid two way game and picks up his share of points, Seguin’s explosive speed and quick shot may suit him better in a sniper’s role.
Statistically Tyler Seguin exploded in 2011-12 with a team-leading 67 points in 81 games. The Bruins were unable to defend their title, but the promising future of one of hockey’s bright young stars will keep the Boston faithful on the edge of their collective seats.
For you fantasy owners, Seguin is not quite in the top ten for centers and wings though if he qualifies for both positions, it certainly improves his standing. Expect an offensive output like Seguin dropped last season with an increase in goals and shots.
It seems that Seguin fits best on a line centered with Bergeron and tough guy Milan Lucic on the opposite wing. He’ll get you some extra faceoff wins as a bonus, but I would expect his goal tally to consistently be in the 40-plus region for the next ten years.
