As the medal round creeps into its second day, a pair of upsets created some unique matchups for the quarterfinal round in Sochi. Slovenia and their merry band of Kopitars bounced Austria while Latvia moved into the quarters with a 3-1 stunner over Switzerland.

While the upsets may be historic and put Latvia and Slovenia in uncharted territory, their reward is to face Canada and Sweden respectively. The talent gap between the NHL-heavy rosters and the have-nots is substantially smaller, which has come as a bit of a surprise.
