The NHL trade deadline has come and gone and now we get to see how the players that were traded can impact their new team. Which big teams helped themselves at the deadline? Let's take a look.
New York Rangers: The Rangers made a blockbuster deal in acquiring Keith Yandle from the Arizona Coyotes but they gave up a lot including one of their best prospects Anthony Duclair and their first-round pick. This trade for the Rangers means that they are all in this season and next season to win their first Stanley Cup in over 20 years. If they don't win the cup though, this will have all been for nothing since they have a lot of key players hitting free agency soon.
Montreal Canadians: Montreal also went out and acquired a defenseman. They got Jeff Petry from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a couple draft picks. Petry is going to be big for them down the stretch as he can play top four minutes and is a huge bolster to that blue line with P.K. Subban.
Anaheim Ducks: The Ducks bolstered their defense as well when they acquired James Wisniewski from Columbus and traded for Simon Despres from Pittsburgh. Bob Murray did a great job getting Wisniewski and not giving up someone that's really good. Cam Fowler and Wisniewski in the top four should be huge for Anaheim down the stretch.
Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins made some depth moves on defense. They acquired Ian Cole from the Blues for Robert Bortuzzo and Ben Lovejoy from Anaheim for Simon Despres. The Despres trade may hurt them down the road but the goal is to win the stanley cup this season so they're a better team than they were when they had Despres and Bortuzzo.
Chicago Blackhawks: With the news that Patrick Kane will be out for half of the playoffs, Chicago had to go out and get some help. They did exactly that as they got Antoine Vermette from Arizona. He may not put up as much points as Kane but he's still a very good player and will play in the top six whether Patrick Kane comes back or not. Hopefully Vermette can help guide the Blackhawks to the Western Conference Finals where it looks like Kane will be eligible to come back.
