Orioles 1, Indians 4
Jeanmar Gomez pitched six strong innings and Michael Brantley had four hits as the Cleveland Indians avoided a sweep with a 4-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.
Gomez (3-0) continued a remarkable start to his major league career, allowing a run and six hits in six innings. He struck out three, did not walk a batter and has allowed just four runs in 23 1/3 innings to date.
Brantley went 4-for-5 to raise his average to .198, but since being recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Aug. 6, he is batting .375 with a homer, three RBIs and seven runs scored.
Trevor Crowe’s infield single scored Brantley in the first and his double drove in another run in the fifth. Lou Marson and Asdrubal Cabrera added RBIs for the Indians, who ended a four-game losing streak.
Kevin Millwood (2-12) pitched well for a second straight start, allowing three runs in seven innings, but the Orioles’ lone run of support came on Ty Wigginton’s RBI single in the eighth inning. The Orioles fell to 8-2 under new manager Buck Showalter.
