Orioles 4, Red Sox 2
Luke Scott had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Baltimore Orioles over the Boston Red Sox, 4-2, on Monday night.
The loss leaves the Red Sox 6.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL wild-card race with just a dozen games to play. Boston has lost three of its last four games.
The Orioles scored first on a sacrifice fly by Scott in the first inning. Boston tied it in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Victor Martinez.
Baltimore scored a run an error in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead but Boston again tied things on an RBI single by Bill Hall.
The Orioles took the lead for good with two runs in the seventh. After a one-out walk, Nick Markakis doubled to chase Boston starter Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Daniel Bard came in relief and allowed a sacrifice fly to Ty Wigginton and an RBI single by Scott to give Baltimore a 4-2 lead.
David Hernandez (8-8) got the win in relief of Brian Matusz who pitched five solid innings. Hernandez allowed a run in two innings.
Matsuzaka (9-6) took the loss. He was charged with four runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings.
