Orioles 2, Rays 0
Kevin Millwood tossed seven shutout innings to lead the Baltimore Orioles to a 2-0 win over the host Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night.
Felix Pie had a two-run, two-out triple in the seventh inning to break a scoreless deadlock for the Orioles, who won the rubber game of the three-game series.
Millwood (4-16) turned in his best effort of the season, allowing just two hits in winning for just the second time since June 24. He struck out seven and walked three.
Tampa Bay, which clinched a playoff berth with Tuesday night's victory, remained a half-game ahead of the New York Yankees in the AL East. The Yankees dropped an 8-4 decision to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Rays starter Jeff Niemann (11-8) was a hard-luck loser. He allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings, striking out three and walking one.
It was Niemann’s longest outing since coming off the 15-day disabled list in late August.
Pie's triple snapped a 1-for-17 skid.
