White Sox 5, Red Sox 2
Freddy Garcia allowed just two hits over seven innings and the Chicago White Sox recorded a 5-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox at U.S. Cellular Field on Wednesday night.
The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single by David Ortiz. It was the only run Garcia (12-6) surrendered.
The White Sox (85-73) tied the game on a solo homer by A.J. Pierzynski in the bottom of the frame.
Josh Beckett (6-6) pitched out of a bases-loaded jam with a double play in the sixth inning, but he couldn't get out of another jam in the seventh.
Chicago blew the game open with four hits, a walk and a throwing error by Victor Martinez. Omar Vizquel and Alexei Ramirez had RBIs in the inning as Chicago took a 4-1 lead.
Mike Lowell belted a solo homer for Boston (87-71).
Matt Thornton got the final four outs for his eighth save of the season.
