Twins 6, Indians 4
The Minnesota Twins rallied for four runs in the eighth inning and clinched a tie for the American League Central title with a 6-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night.
The win combined with the Chicago White Sox loss to Oakland allowed the Twins to clinch their second straight division title.
Denard Span's RBI single broke a 4-4 tie as the Twins rallied off relievers Justin Masterson (6-13) and Tony Sipp.
Glen Perkins (1-1) pitched the eighth for the win. Matt Capps worked the ninth for his 15th save with the Twins and 41st of the season.
Cleveland took a 4-2 lead into the eighth but Jim Thome, who hit a solo homer in the second, led off with a single. Pinch-runner Trevor Plouffe scored on Delmon Young's double. Danny Valencia's single moved Young to third. After Nick Punto flied out, pinch-hitter Jose Morales' sacrifice fly off Sipp tied the game.
Valencia moved to second on the throw home and scored on Span's single to left. Orlando Hudson's double gave the Twins a two-run lead.
The win was the 800th in the career of Twins manager Ron Gardenhire.
Cleveland Indians starter Fausto Camona allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Scott Baker allowed two runs (one earned) and four hits in five innings for Minnesota. He threw 91 pitches, striking out seven and walking one. Baker was making his first start since Sept. 2 because of a sore elbow.
