Rangers 11, Tigers 4
Michael Young drove in three runs and the Texas Rangers remained red-hot with an 11-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.
Young went 3-for-5 and scored three runs for the Rangers, who have won six straight on the heels of a five-game losing streak. In search of their first division title since 1999, the Rangers' magic number was reduced to 10 with the win over the Tigers and Kansas City's 11-3 victory over Oakland on Tuesday.
Texas scored three runs in the fourth to tie the game at 4-4. David Murphy started the rally with a solo home run. He finished with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Mitch Moreland singled in Nelson Cruz and Elvis Andrus scored on an error to cap the offense that inning.
Texas broke things open in the sixth and seventh. The Rangers scored three times in the sixth and added four in the seventh, highlighted by a bases-clearing double by Young.
Dustin Nippert earned the win with some stellar work out of the bullpen in relief of Derek Holland. Nippert (4-4) came on in the fifth and allowed just three hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Robbie Weinhardt (1-2) took the loss, allowing three runs and four hits in 2/3 of an inning of relief.
