Royals 3, Rays 2
Zack Greinke won his final start of the season, leading the Kansas City Royals to a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay on Thursday night and dropping the Rays into a first-place tie with New York in the American League East.
The Rays and Yankees have identical 94-65 records with three games left in the season. Both have clinched playoff spots but are battling for the best record in the league.
Greinke (10-14), last season's AL Cy Young award winner, allowed two runs on four hits and struck out nine in seven innings.
Joakim Soria pitched the ninth for his career-high 43rd save in 45 chances and 36th in a row.
Kila Ka'aihue drove in two runs with ground balls in the first and third, which helped Kansas City build a 3-0 lead against Matt Garza (15-10).
Jarrod Dyson added an RBI triple in the second.
Carl Crawford hit a solo homer for Tampa Bay in the second. Reid Brignac had a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Garza allowed three runs in seven innings.
Gregor Blanco led off the first with an infield hit, went to third on Billy Butler's single and scored when Ka'aihue grounded out. The Royals scored with two outs in the second as Brayan Pena doubled and scored on Dyson's triple.
