Mark Teixeira continued his torrid pace with three hits and three RBIs as the New York Yankees held off the Oakland Athletics 4-3 on Wednesday night.

A.J. Burnett (10-12) pitched six solid innings for his first win in over a month. Burnett allowed six hits and three runs while striking out eight.

Mariano Rivera worked the ninth for his 28th save.

New York, which has won five in a row, jumped out to the lead, getting one run in the first on an RBI double by Mark Teixeira. The Yankees made it 4-0 in the second. The first run scored on an error by losing pitcher Brian Anderson (3-6).

Teixeira then stroked a two-run single increasing his season RBI total to 98.

Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to make it 4-2 and Coco Crisp’s ground out scored another run in the sixth inning to trim the deficit to 4-3.
