Blue Jays 3, A's 1
Shaun Marcum took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and ended up pitching a one-hitter for his first complete game and Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run homer as the Toronto Blue Jays earned a 3-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Monday night.
Marcum (11-6) had his no-hit bid broken up by Conor Jackson's homer in the seventh. Jackson was returning after being on the disabled list since June 30 with a hamstring injury.
Marcum struck out five and walked one on 103 pitches.
Jose Bautista hit an inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning for his league-leading 37th homer and Encarnacion hit his 13th homer in the fifth off starter Brett Anderson, who had not allowed a homer this season.
Toronto catcher Jose Molina was 4-for-4 in helping open the three-game set with a win.
Anderson (3-4) allowed three runs - two earned - on seven hits in six innings to take the loss.
