Rays 2, Blue Jays 1

Evan Longoria broke a tie with an eighth-inning single as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 Wednesday night.

Longoria's run-scoring hit off Toronto reliever Scott Downs brought home Ben Zobrist with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sean Rodriguez added three hits, including a homer, as the Rays won for the fourth time in five games.

David Price (16-6) did the rest, limiting the Jays to a run on four hits over eight solid innings to win for the first time in his last four outings. Price walked two and struck out seven to run his career record against Toronto to 6-0.

Tampa closer Rafael Soriano worked around a one-out triple in the to Vernon Wells in the ninth, striking out Adam Lind and inducing John Buck to fly out en route to his 40th save.

The win allowed the Rays to keep pace with the New York Yankees in the American League East. Tampa trails the Yankees by a game after New York completed a sweep with a 4-3 win over Oakland. The Jays visit the Yankees for a three-game series beginning Friday.

Buck's solo home run in the fifth inning provided the lone offense for Toronto.

Shawn Camp (4-3) earned the loss in relief of Jays starter Shaun Marcum, who allowed a run on five hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out seven.
