Cubs 7, Giants 8

Andres Torres singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth and Pat Burrell hit a grand slam among two homers as the San Francisco Giants took the finale of a four-game series, 8-7, over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.

Pinch-hitting against rookie Andrew Cashner (1-5) with the bases loaded, Torres took two balls before lifting a long drive to straight away center field over the drawn-in outfield to push Aaron Rowand across with the winning run.

Pablo Sandoval added a solo homer and Brian Wilson (3-1) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win for the Giants, who took three of four in the series.

Burrell, who hit a tie-breaking solo homer in the eighth inning to lead San Francisco to a win on Wednesday, was at it again, snapping a 3-3 deadlock in the fifth inning with a grand slam to left off Randy Wells. It was his second homer of the contest and 10th since joining the Giants.

The former Philadelphia Phillies star and Tampa Bay Rays disappointment has driven in 14 runs in the last 12 games for his new team.

Chicago led 3-1 after Wells drove in a run in the fourth but San Francisco tied it in the bottom of that frame when Burrell and Sandoval hit back-to-back solo shots.
