Padres 9, Cubs 5
Miguel Tejada and Chris Denorfria each drove in a pair of runs and Kevin Correia tossed six shutout innings as the San Diego Padres secured a 9-5 over the Chicago Cubs on Monday.
Tejada was 4-for-5 with two runs scored, while Adrian Gonzalez, Ryan Ludwick and Chase Headley each had an RBI for the Padres.
Correia (10-7) allowed five hits and struck out five batters before turning the game over to the bullpen.
From there Luke Gregerson gave up a two-run double to Kosuke Fukudome in the bottom of the seventh and Ernesto Frieri allowed three more in the eighth to pull the Cubs within two runs.
But San Diego added two more run in the ninth on Denorfia's triple for the four-run cushion.
Chicago’s Tom Gorzelanny slipped to 6-7 on the year after giving up five runs over 6 1/3 innings.
