Cubs 3, Reds 2

Kosuke Fukudome's two-run homer in the fifth inning broke a tie and the Chicago Cubs held on for a 3-2 triumph over the Cincinnati Reds Saturday.

Xavier Nady belted a solo shot and Randy Wells tossed six solid innings for the Cubs, who have won five of their last seven games.

With the game even at 1-1, Tyler Colvin led off the fifth with a single and Fukudome followed with his first homer in 14 games, launching an 0-1 pitch from Bronson Arroyo for his 11th blast of the year. Fukudome had not homered since August 10 at San Francisco.

Nady gave Chicago a 1-0 edge in the second with his fifth homer, but Joey Votto drew Cincinnati even two innings later with his 32nd of the season and third in as many games.

The Reds got within 3-2 in the sixth when Scott Rolen hit a one-out double, moved to third on Jonny Gomes' single and scored on a base hit by Ryan Hanigan.

Wells (6-12), who had lost his previous five decisions, allowed two runs and six hits. He walked two and struck out four in improving to 4-1 lifetime against Cincinnati.

James Russell and Andrew Cashner each pitched a scoreless inning before Carlos Marmol worked a perfect ninth for his 24th save in 29 opportunities.

Arroyo (14-8) had his five-game winning streak versus the Cubs halted as he yielded three runs and five hits in seven frames. The right-hander, who struck out five without a walk, lost for just the second time in six decisions.
