Pirates 14, Cubs 7
The Pittsburgh Pirates got back to their winning ways against the Chicago Cubs, pounding out a 14-7 victory on Tuesday.
The Pirates have won 10 of their last 14 games against the Cubs, but have been terrible on the road. Tuesday’s win was their first road win in 15 tries.
Jeff Karstens (3-10) picked up his first win since June 19, going six innings and allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six and walking one.
Pittsburgh's Neil Walker hit his 8th dinger of the year and had four hits and four RBIs, while Garrett Jones hit his 20th home run and drove in three runs. Andrew McCutchen added two hits, two runs and a pair of RBIs to go along with a walk.
Chicago starter Ryan Dempster (12-9) was 4-0 in his last five starts coming into this one, but picked up the loss after getting the hook following three innings of work. He gave up seven runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking three. He failed to pick up his 100th career win.
Marcos Mateo allowed four runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Cubs catcher Koyie Hill had three hits and his first home run of the year, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chicago added five runs in the bottom of the eighth.
