Red Sox 8, Twins 6

David Ortiz collected four hits, including an RBI single in the ninth inning that snapped a tie and led the visiting Boston Red Sox to an 8-6 triumph over the struggling Minnesota Twins on Monday.

Ortiz also belted a two-run homer and Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a solo shot and added an RBI double for Boston, which has won seven of nine on the road.

Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-out single in the ninth off Glen Perkins (3-2) and pinch-runner Darnell McDonald scored when Ortiz singled against Joe Nathan two batters later, giving the Red Sox a 7-6 edge. Saltalamacchia followed with a run-scoring double as Alfredo Aceves (8-1) notched the win despite yielding a run in the eighth.

Jonathan Papelbon worked a perfect ninth for his 25th save in 26 opportunities.

Tim Wakefield was in line for his 200th career win as Boston rallied for four runs in the sixth to forge a 5-5 tie and scored on an error by Twins catcher Joe Mauer in the eighth to move ahead. But Jason Kubel knotted the contest in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single off Aceves.

Kubel finished 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs for Minnesota, which has lost five in a row both overall and at home.
