Indians 1, Yankees 0

Carlos Carrasco held an opponent scoreless for the second straight start and the Indians picked up just their second win in 11 games with a 1-0 victory over the Yankees Monday night in the Bronx.

Carrasco (6-3) improved to 4-0 on the road by scattering five hits and three walks while striking out a season-high seven batters in seven innings. Carrasco cruised after escaping a first-inning jam in which he loaded the bases with no outs.

Derek Jeter had one of those hits to pull within six of 3,000 for his career but left the game in the bottom of the fifth with a injured right calf that could cause the future Hall of Famer to miss some time.

Chris Perez struck out the side in the ninth for his 16th save, as the Indians pitchers retired 19 of the last 21 batters in the first 1-0 game at new Yankee Stadium.

The win keeps the Indians clinging to first in the American League Central, but their offense hardly broke out of its slump. Cleveland entered the game hitting a major-league worst .201 since June 2 but took the lead on Asdrubal Cabrera’s infield hit in the fourth that scored Michael Brantley.

A.J. Burnett (6-5) was the hard-luck loser even though he bounced back from his worst outing of the season by allowing that one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and just one walk in 7 2/3 innings.
