Marlins 5, Rays 3
Javier Vazquez turned in his best start of the season and Logan Morrison doubled in a pair of runs as the Florida Marlins defeated the visiting Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 on Saturday.
Hanley Ramirez continued his surge with a solo homer and Omar Infante hit a two-run shot for the Marlins, who will go for the series sweep Sunday.
Leo Nunez worked the ninth for his league-leading 17th save.
Vazquez (3-4) entered with the third-worst ERA of any starter in the National League (7.55) and was coming off two straight losses in which he allowed 12 runs - 11 earned - in 8 1/3 innings. But the veteran righthander turned back the clock Saturday when he yielded three hits and struck out a season-high seven in seven scoreless innings.
David Price (5-4) started for the Rays and was immediately in a hole after yielding Morrison’s two-run double in the first. It stayed 2-0 until the sixth, when Ramirez, who has multiple hits in three of the last four games, hit his fourth homer.
Infante's blast made it 5-0 in the seventh.
Tampa Bay has dropped three straight and six of eight.
