Indians 4, Athletics 3 (12 innings)

Jack Hannahan and Lou Marson each had RBI singles in the 12th inning and the visiting Cleveland Indians posted a 4-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics Thursday.

Asdrubal Cabrera had a two-run single for the surprising Indians (21-9), who are off to their best 30-game start in franchise history and won a series here for the first time since 2002.

Orlando Cabrera began the winning rally with a one-out single to left-center field off Craig Breslow (0-2). One batter later, Hannahan plated the go-ahead run with a bloop single to left field that just eluded the glove of shortstop Cliff Pennington.

Marson’s run-scoring single to shallow left made it a two-run game.

The A’s tried to answer in the bottom half as Ryan Sweeney, who tied the game with an RBI double in the eighth, cut the lead to 4-3 with a run-scoring single. But Chris Perez got pinch hitter Hideki Matsui to fly out to end it a record his ninth save.

Chad Durbin (2-1) helped Cleveland win the battle of the bullpens by throwing two scoreless innings.

Brett Anderson allowed two runs and seven hits over nine innings for Oakland and Sweeney added five hits.
