Indians 3, Angels 2

Rookie Jason Kipnis picked up the first hit and RBI of his career in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Cleveland Indians to a 3-2 walk-off victory over the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Monday.

Travis Hafner doubled in the tying run in the ninth and Asdrubal Cabrera added an RBI for the Indians, who snapped a four-game slide.

After grabbing a lead on Bobby Abreu’s two-run homer in the eighth, the Angels went to closer Jordan Walden to begin the ninth. Michael Brantley singled and stole second in front of Hafner, who drove a 99-mph fastball into left field for the tying RBI.

Walden (2-3) then loaded the bases on a walk and a hit-by-pitch before Los Angeles turned to Hisanori Takahashi. The Angels managed to cut a run down at the plate with a drawn-in infield, but Kipnis followed with a single to shallow right to plate Carlos Santana with the winning run.

Tony Sipp (5-2) got the win in relief for Cleveland.

The late-game fireworks overshadowed a pair of strong starts from Fausto Carmona and Dan Haren.
