Diamondbacks 4, Phillies 0
Ian Kennedy threw his first career shutout one day after the birth of his first child and the host Arizona Diamondbacks ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over Cliff Lee and the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
Chris Young and Gerardo Parra each homered, and Xavier Nady drove in a run for the Diamondbacks, who had lost 13 of the last 16 meetings.
Philadelphia had its season-best six-game winning streak snapped. The Phillies were coming off a four-game sweep of the San Diego Padres.
Kennedy (3-1) dominated the slumping Philadelphia offense. The righthander allowed three hits and had a season-high 10 strikeouts. His second straight win certainly would have been the highlight of his week had he and his wife Allison not welcomed their first child, Nora Rose, to the world Sunday.
Lee (2-2), meanwhile, experienced what many pitchers have in their first start at hitter-friendly Chase Field. He tied a season-high with 12 strikeouts, but also allowed two homers. Lee allowed four runs and five hits in seven innings.
Philadelphia, which was shut out for the second time this season, hasn’t scored more than four runs since April 9.
