Rockies 5, Cubs 3

The visiting Colorado Rockies took advantage of four errors by the Chicago Cubs - including three in the second inning by shortstop Starlin Castro - en route to a 5-3 victory Monday.

Darwin Barney's two-run homer helped the Cubs build a 3-0 first-inning cushion, but the Rockies came back with three unearned runs in the top of the second courtesy of Castro. Two scored when Castro threw wide of second on a force attempt as the ball rolled through short right field and into the Rockies bullpen area.

An error by Cubs starter Matt Garza (0-3) led to another run in the fifth as Colorado took a 5-3 lead. Garza allowed only three hits and one earned run, and struck out seven in six innings.

Esmil Rogers (3-1) went 5 1/3 innings for Colorado, and allowed eight hits and four walks, and Huston Street worked the ninth for his eighth save. The Cubs brought the tying run to the plate with one out, but Street struck out Carlos Pena and got Marlon Byrd to ground into the final out.

Castro's three miscues in an inning were one short of the major-league record for a shortstop. Three players had four-error innings, the last in 1942.
