Pirates 10, Nationals 2
All-Star snub Andrew McCutchen went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs as the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates crushed the Washington Nationals, 10-2, on Sunday.
Lyle Overbay added three RBIs while Garrett Jones and Neil Walker each drove in a pair for the Pirates, who evened the four-game series at two wins apiece.
McCutchen, who was left off the National League All-Star squad despite having better numbers than most NL outfielders, kicked off the onslaught on Sunday. He sparked a three-run rally against Nationals starter Jason Marquis in the first with an RBI single.
McCutchen was in the middle of a five-run rally in the second as well, doubling in a run and scoring as Pittsburgh knocked Marquis (7-3) out after just 1 1/3 innings.
That was plenty of support for Kevin Correia (11-6), who yielded two runs in six innings to join Philadelphia’s Roy Halladay and Atlanta’s Jair Jurrjens as 11-game winners in the National League.
Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth left the game in the bottom of the sixth after getting hit with a pitch on the left wrist.
Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan and Washington setup man Tyler Clippard were announced as the lone All-Stars from each team.
