Nationals 2, Padres 1
Michael Morse homered in his fourth consecutive game - this one in the bottom of the ninth inning - to help the Washington Nationals snap a season-high five-game losing streak with a 2-1 home victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday.
Morse's shot to left-center field off Mike Adams (2-1) came after Jason Bartlett's solo home run in the top of the inning erased Washington's 1-0 lead.
The punchless Padres managed just three hits and have scored only 13 runs in their past 10 games.
Nationals starter John Lannan remained winless in seven starts since April 20, but he was dominant Friday. He allowed just two hits and two walks and struck out five before he left with two on and two out in the eighth.
Drew Storen (4-1) fanned Chris Denorfia to end that threat, but he allowed Bartlett's homer to left to lead off the ninth.
Washington's Danny Espinosa hit his seventh home run, a solo shot in the fifth off Padres starter Clayton Richard, who allowed one run over seven innings for his first quality start since April 22.
Jerry Hairston Jr. was ejected in the bottom of the seventh inning for arguing with home plate umpire Ed Hickox. Hairston asked for time and stepped out of the batter's box, but it was not granted and Hairston flew out to right field.
