Angels 5, Athletics 0
Jered Weaver became the first pitcher in major league history to win six games by April 25 as his seven-hitter led the host Los Angeles Angels to a 5-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Monday.
Weaver (6-0) gave up two hits in the first three innings before he retired the next eight batters. He struck out 10 and dropped his earned run average to 0.99. Weaver's outing took the pressure off Los Angeles' offense, which had been shut out in its past two games.
Los Angeles jumped on Oakland starter Gio Gonzalez (2-2) early and took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Howie Kendrick in the second. The Angels pushed across a run in the third and two in the fourth to give Weaver all the breathing room he would need.
Kendrick finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run to help Los Angeles snap a four-game losing streak.
Oakland’s offense sputtered after scoring 14 runs in its previous two games. The Athletics' six through nine hitters combined to go 0-for-13 with one walk and four strikeouts Monday.
