Manny Machado belted his first two career homers and fellow rookie Miguel Gonzalez tossed a season-best eight solid innings as host Baltimore recorded its fifth win in six contests.
Playing in his second career game, Machado gave Baltimore a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning after depositing a 3-2 curveball from Luke Hochevar (7-10) into the seats in left field.
The third overall pick of the 2010 draft, Machado followed Nate McLouth's RBI double in the sixth inning by launching a three-run shot to whip the crowd at Camden Yards into a frenzy. Machado, who is 20 years and 35 days old, is the 12th youngest player since 1918 to have a multi-homer game.
The second blast ended the evening for Hochavar, who fell to 1-6 in his career versus Baltimore after permitting seven runs on as many hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Making his seventh career start, Gonzalez (4-2) allowed one run on six hits to pick up his second straight win. Pedro Strop worked the ninth to preserve the victory.
After Kansas City's Salvador Perez belted his second homer in three games to open the scoring in the second inning, Baltimore's Omar Quintanilla answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-run shot.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Machado is the youngest Baltimore player to hit a homer since 19-year-old Jim Palmer went deep in 1965. ... Kansas City failed in its bid to match its season-high fourth straight victory. The Royals have won four straight games on three occasions this season. ... The Orioles announced that their Aug. 30 game against the Chicago White Sox will begin at 12:35 p.m.
