Yankees 7, Tigers 6

Derek Jeter scored on a passed ball in the ninth inning as New York overcame a pair of two-run deficits to rally past visiting Detroit.

Alex Rodriguez collected three hits - including a solo homer off Justin Verlander in the fourth inning - and Russell Martin belted a two-run shot for the Yankees, who snapped a modest two-game losing skid.

Jeter, who saw his 15-game hitting streak come to an end, walked in the ninth inning and advanced to third on a wild pitch from Brayan Villarreal (0-1). The hard-throwing pitcher then uncorked another pitch which went awry - and Jeter scampered home with the winning run.

Mariano Rivera (1-1) retired the side in the ninth to pick up the victory.

Austin Jackson recorded four hits - including a two-run double in the sixth inning - and Miguel Cabrera recorded his 1,000th career RBI.

Prince Fielder had two RBI singles and Brad Eldred added a run-scoring triple for the Tigers.
