Nationals 4, Mets 3

Adam LaRoche hit a two-run homer and Jordan Zimmermann tossed six shutout innings as host Washington defeated New York for the second consecutive night.

Steve Lombardozzi added a two-run double as the Nationals stretched the Mets’ season-worst losing skid to six games.

Zimmermann (7-6) allowed just four hits and no walks while winning his fourth straight decision. Tyler Clippard allowed ninth-inning homers to David Wright and Jason Bay but struck out the side to record his 15th save one night after blowing his second save of the season.

LaRoche’s sixth-inning blast off Chris Young (2-4) broke a scoreless tie. Lombardozzi’s double off the right-field fence in the seventh made it 4-1.

Bryce Harper stroked a one-out single prior to LaRoche’s two-out shot in the sixth, which sailed over the left-center field fence for his 16th homer of the season.

New York got on the board in the seventh when Lucas Duda doubled with one out against Tom Gorzelanny and scored on a two-out single by Andres Torres.

Young gave up two runs and six hits in six innings.
