Phillies 6, Cubs 4
Phillies 6, Cubs 4: Placido Polanco snapped a tie with a two-run double in the eighth inning as Philadelphia gained a split of its four-game home series against Chicago.
Carlos Ruiz drove in two runs and Jimmy Rollins scored twice for the Phillies, who have yet to lose a series to the Cubs at Citizens Bank Park (7-0-2).
After Chad Qualls (1-0) blew a lead in the top of the eighth, Philadelphia got it right back in the bottom half. Pinch-hitter Juan Pierre was hit by a pitch from Scott Maine (0-1) with one out and went to third on Rollins' single off Rafael Dolis before Polanco plated both with a double to left.
Jonathan Papelbon worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth for his eighth save in as many opportunities.
The Phillies took a 4-0 lead in the first as Rollins led off by bunting for a hit and scored three batters later on Hunter Pence's single. Ruiz delivered a two-run single later in the frame and Pete Orr capped the outburst with a run-scoring base hit.
The Cubs loaded the bases against Vance Worley in the seventh but managed just one run. However, they got even against Philadelphia's bullpen an inning later as Qualls relieved Antonio Bastardo and yielded an RBI single by Starlin Castro before serving up a game-tying, two-run homer by Bryan LaHair.
