Diamondbacks 7, Orioles 6

Adam Eaton drilled the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth inning over the right-field fence to give host Arizona the win over Baltimore in the opener of the three-game interleague series.

Wil Nieves homered in the eighth to give Arizona a 6-5 lead, but Baltimore tied the game in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Nick Markakis before Eaton hit the first walkoff homer of his career off Darren O’Day (5-2).

Brad Ziegler (6-1) blew the save in the ninth before becoming the beneficiary of Eaton’s third career blast. Arizona is 5 1/2 games behind Cincinnati for the National League’s second wild-card spot, while Baltimore fell two games behind Tampa Bay for the American League's second berth.

Brian Roberts singled in a run in the second inning to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead. Aaron Hill homered to left in the bottom of the inning and the Diamondbacks tied the score when Gerardo Parra stole third and was awarded home due to obstruction by Orioles third baseman Manny Machado after the throw got away.

Roberts doubled in a run in the fourth and Matt Wieters homered in the sixth as the Orioles took a 4-2 lead. Arizona recovered to go ahead by one on RBI singles in the seventh by Eaton, Hill and Martin Prado before Baltimore slugger Chris Davis tied the game at 5-5 in the eighth with his major league-leading 43rd homer.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hill has homered in three straight games and recorded a career-best five consecutive multi-hit performances. … Orioles starter Scott Feldman struck out eight in 5 1/3 innings while allowing two runs (one earned) and four hits. Arizona’s Wade Miley yielded four runs and seven hits in seven frames. … Diamondbacks OF Cody Ross (dislocated hip) was placed on the disabled list and will undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday.
