Julio Teheran pitched six scoreless innings and Freddie Freeman had two hits and an RBI as host Atlanta claimed the rubber match of the three-game series.

Teheran (10-6) struck out five and allowed five hits and three walks to improve to 6-3 in 13 home starts. Three relievers combined to bridge the gap to Craig Kimbrel, who struck out the side in the ninth inning for his 39th save.

The Braves continued their dominance against Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez (7-6), who struck out nine and gave up two runs on five hits in seven frames. Gonzalez dropped to 2-6 all-time against Atlanta, including an 0-4 this year.

Atlanta did all of its scoring in the first inning as Freeman and Chris Johnson delivered RBI singles for a 2-0 lead. Phil Gosselin made his first start at second base and collected his first two major-league hits with singles in the first and third as the Braves seized a 12-4 lead in the season series and extended their National League East lead to 15 1/2 games.

The Nationals had two on with none out in each of the first three innings but were unable to take advantage. They finished 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The start of the game was delayed 39 minutes by rain. … CF Denard Span went 3-for-5 and RF Jayson Werth had the only RBI for Washington. … The Braves sat most of their regulars after Saturday's 15-inning game ended well past midnight. Freeman and Johnson were the only usual starters in the lineup.
