Athletics 3, White Sox 0

Bartolo Colon pitched his first nine-inning shutout in two years and Josh Reddick doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth to lift host Oakland.

Colon (6-2) won his third straight start, scattering five singles to run his scoreless streak to 18 innings as the Athletics improved to 12-2 in their last 14 contests and remained three games back of American League West-leading Texas.

Dylan Axelrod (3-4) was the hard-luck loser for Chicago, blanking Oakland on two hits over seven innings before surrendering back-to-back doubles in the eighth to John Jaso and Reddick, who was activated off the disabled list earlier Friday.

Coco Crisp provided insurance later in the inning with a two-run single off reliever Jesse Crain to send the White Sox to their fourth consecutive defeat.

Colon, who was credited with a shutout in a seven-inning, rain-shortened victory over Boston on April 23, did not allow a runner to reach second base as he registered his 11th career shutout and first in nine frames since May 30, 2011.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Athletics LF Yoenis Cespedes went 0-for-4 and had the majors' longest active hitting streak snapped at 12 games. ...
