Blue Jays 8, Royals 4
Jose Reyes, Adam Lind and Emilio Bonifacio drove in two runs apiece in visiting Toronto's victory, but the Blue Jays appear to have lost Reyes for an extended period of time with a left ankle injury.
Reyes was carted off the field after hitting the bag awkwardly while stealing second base in the sixth inning. Reyes, who is hitting .395 in his first season with Toronto, is expected to miss at least four weeks and possibly up to three months.
Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ (2-0) bounced back from a rough first inning to allow four runs and five hits while throwing 110 pitches in five innings. Sergio Santos retired the Royals in order in the sixth, and Aaron Loup did the same in the seventh, eighth and ninth to earn his first save.
The Blue Jays opened up an 8-4 lead with three runs in the sixth. With runners on first and third and two out, Bonifacio delivered an RBI double to center field, ending the night for starter Luis Mendoza (0-1), who allowed seven earned runs and seven hits. Reyes greeted reliever Luke Hochevar with a two-run single.
After the Blue Jays took a 2-0 lead in the first, the Royals came back with three in their half of the inning. Kansas City catcher Salvador Perez drove in the first run with a single to right center and Lorenzo Cain knocked in two more with a two-out single to center.
