Yankees 2, Angels 1

Yankees 2, Angels 1:
Hiroki Kuroda allowed three hits over eight dominant innings while Curtis Granderson homered as host New York held off Los Angeles.

Kuroda (11-7) struck out seven, lowered his American League-best home ERA to 1.54 and extended his scoreless streak at Yankee Stadium to 21 2/3 innings. Granderson finished with two hits and Brett Gardner drove in the other run for New York, which has won three of four.

Garrett Richards (3-5) took the hard-luck loss in his first career complete game, giving up two runs and seven hits. Josh Hamilton and Chris Iannetta combined for all three of Los Angeles’ extra-base hits as the Angels fell to 2-8 in their last 10 road games.

Gardner, who delivered walk-off hits in each of New York’s wins over the weekend against the Detroit Tigers, put the Yankees on the board with a two-out RBI single in the third. Granderson added an insurance run in the seventh, drilling a fastball deep into the second deck of right field.

New York turned to Boone Logan and David Robertson in the ninth when Yankees manager Joe Girardi opted not to use Mariano Rivera, who has blown each of his last three save chances. J.B. Shuck led off the frame with a single and scored on Hamilton’s double, but Robertson struck out Mark Trumbo and Chris Nelson with the bases loaded to notch his sixth career save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Granderson’s home run was his 22nd against the Angels, one shy of his most against any opponent (23 against the Minnesota Twins). … Including the postseason, Los Angeles is 6-18 over its last 24 games in New York. … Los Angeles' Mike Trout singled to extend his on-base streak to 34 games, the longest active run in the majors.
