Brewers 10, Giants 8
Yuniesky Betancourt capped an eight-run third inning with his fifth career grand slam and Milwaukee held on to win the opener of a six-game homestand.
The Brewers tagged Giants starter Barry Zito (2-1) for nine earned runs in 2 2/3 innings and led 9-3 after three innings before San Francisco began its comeback. Jim Henderson allowed one run in the ninth before recording his second save.
Brandon Crawford homered and Pablo Sandoval had four RBIs for the Giants. Milwaukee snapped Zito’s 15-inning scoreless streak and handed the Giants their first loss in Zito’s last 17 starts.
Rickie Weeks sparked the Brewers’ eight-run rally with a two-run double and Jonathan Lucroy followed with a two-run single off Zito, who dropped to 0-5 in eight career outings at Miller Park. Alex Gonzalez and Carlos Gomez each singled to bring up Betancourt, whose liner just cleared the left-field wall.
The Giants chipped away against Brewers starter Wily Peralta (1-1), who was pulled after giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits over four innings. San Francisco pulled within two runs on Sandoval’s sacrifice fly in the sixth, but the Brewers added an insurance run in the eighth on Norichika Aoki’s home run off George Kontos.
