Brewers 9, Phillies 1
Carlos Gomez hit a two-run homer and Jean Segura drove in a pair as Milwaukee took its third straight from visiting Philadelphia.
Scooter Gennett added two RBIs in support of Kyle Lohse (2-6), who scattered a run and four hits over eight innings to snap a seven-start winless streak. Martin Maldonado chipped in a solo home run as the Brewers took their second series in the last 10 days from the Phillies.
Humberto Quintero plated the lone run with a solo home run for Philadelphia, which pulled above .500 for the first time this season by taking Thursday’s series opener but has now slumped two games under at 31-33.
Milwaukee broke things open with four runs in the fourth off Phillies right-hander Jonathan Pettibone (3-2). Gomez reached on Pettibone’s error to begin the frame, and a single and hit by pitch loaded the bases before Juan Francisco recorded an RBI groundout, Gennett tripled in a pair and Lohse sacrificed a run home.
Gomez made it a 6-0 gap when he sent a first-pitch fastball from Pettibone deep into the seats in left-center in the sixth. Segura added a two-run single in the seventh and Maldonado went deep in the eighth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pettibone was charged with six runs (four earned) and four hits in 5 1/3 innings. The rookie has gone five straight starts without a win. … Milwaukee activated RHP Jim Henderson (hamstring) from the 15-day DL. Henderson cleaned things up with a scoreless ninth inning. … Brewers LF Ryan Braun has been battling a sore thumb and was lifted for a pinch hitter in the third inning due to continued trouble.
