Phillies 6, Padres 2: Domonic Brown snapped a 14-game homerless drought and drove in four runs as visiting Philadelphia evened the three-game series at one win apiece.
Kyle Kendrick pitched eight strong innings and Jimmy Rollins scored twice for the Phillies, who are 1-1 on their 10-game road trip.
San Diego took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Alexi Amarista hit an RBI groundout and Pedro Ciriaco followed with a run-scoring single. Brown put Philadelphia ahead for good in the third with his 20th home run, a three-run blast to right-center field on a 2-0 pitch from Jason Marquis (9-3) that put him within one of National League leader Carlos Gonzalez of Colorado.
Brown drew a bases-loaded walk in the the fifth and the Phillies scored twice more in the frame to create breathing room for Kendrick (7-4), who allowed two runs and seven hits. The right-hander struck out six without a walk for his first win in four starts.
Marquis lasted 4 1/3 innings, surrendering six runs on six hits and five walks as his eight-game winning streak came to an end. Ciriaco recorded three hits while Carlos Quentin and Yasmani Grandal added two apiece for the Padres, who are 3-3 on their seven-game homestand.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Brown had not homered since June 8 at Milwaukee. ... The Phillies scored more than five runs for just the third time in 25 road games. ... Marquis fell to 6-9 lifetime against Philadelphia as he lost for the first time since April 22 against Milwaukee.
