Padres 6, Mariners 1

Jedd Gyorko hit a two-run homer and Mark Kotsay also had two RBIs as visiting San Diego defeated Seattle in the second of four consecutive games between the clubs.

Edinson Volquez (4-5) allowed one run and four hits in a season-long 7 2/3 innings and Alexi Amarista also homered as the Padres won for just the second time in seven games. The teams split the two games in Seattle and play Wednesday and Thursday in San Diego.

Gyorko’s fourth-inning blast off Brandon Maurer (2-7) gave the Padres a 2-1 lead and Amarista went deep in the fifth. Kotsay’s bases-loaded single was the big blow in a three-run sixth that boosted San Diego’s lead to five.

Seattle’s lone run against Volquez scored in the second on a sacrifice fly by Jesus Sucre. Volquez struck out five and walked three.

Maurer allowed six runs (five earned) and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings while losing his fourth straight decision.
