Diamondbacks 6, Giants 5 (10)

Tony Campana’s fourth hit of the game scored Cliff Pennington from second with two outs in the top of the 10th and Arizona held on to win the rubber game of the three-game series.

Pennington had three hits and two RBIs for the Diamondbacks and Miguel Montero drove in two runs. Arizona starter Randall Delgado lasted just 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and six hits, before J.J. Putz (1-0) worked a 1-2-3 ninth and Addison Reed a perfect 10th for his third save.

Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong went five innings, allowing four runs and seven hits before Yusmeiro Petit (0-1) surrendered the go-ahead run in the 10th. Buster Posey, Hunter Pence, Michael Morse and Brandon Crawford had two hits apiece for San Francisco, with Morse driving in two runs.

Vogelsong’s control got him in trouble in the second as he hit Montero with a pitch and walked Mark Trumbo with one out before Pennington knocked in both with a single to center, and Montero’s double drove in two more runs and gave the Diamondbacks a 4-1 lead in the third. The Giants plated another in their half of the third on Posey’s successful squeeze bunt, another in the fourth on Crawford’s RBI double and took a 5-4 lead when Morse delivered a two-out, two-run double to right off reliever Oliver Perez.

Arizona looked to have a golden opportunity to take the lead after loading the bases with none out in the seventh, but Jean Machi got Martin Prado to hit into a pitcher-to-home-to-first double play and Montero struck out against San Francisco’s fourth reliever of the game, Javier Lopez. The Diamondbacks got even in the eighth, however, as Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval made a throwing error with two out, bringing home Gerardo Parra with the tying run.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Sandoval went 0-for-3 with two walks to drop his average to .132 and is still looking for his first multi-hit game of the season. … San Francisco OF Angel Pagan went 1-for-4 but is still hitting .442 in the leadoff spot. … Trumbo did not drive in a run in the series after collecting 13 in the first nine games.
