Mets 3, Braves 2

Dillon Gee tossed 6 2/3 strong innings and Juan Lagares clubbed a two-run homer as host New York took the first of three games between the National League East rivals.

Travis d'Arnaud delivered a pair of hits and scored twice while Ruben Tejada singled in a run for the Mets, who have won two straight following a 1-5 slide. Gee (5-6) yielded two runs and six hits to lower his ERA to 2.79 in 14 career starts against the Braves.

Alex Wood (9-10) gave up three runs and five hits while striking out six in seven frames as Atlanta dropped its third straight. Justin Upton went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Braves, who remained 7 1/2 games behind first-place Washington in the NL East and fell 1 1/2 in back of San Francisco in the race for the second wild-card spot.

New York began the second inning with singles by d'Arnaud and Lagares before Tejada knocked in the game's first run one out later with a base hit to left field. Upton's two-out RBI double in the fourth tied it, but d'Arnaud led off the bottom of the frame with a two-base hit and Lagares followed with his second blast in three games to make it 3-1.

Upton singled and eventually came home on Tommy La Stella's base hit in the seventh that chased Gee, but Jeurys Familia got the last out of that inning and also worked a scoreless eighth. Jenrry Mejia induced a double play after Upton's leadoff hit in the ninth en route to his 19th save.
