Michael Brantley homered among his three hits and drove in three runs while Carlos Santana also went deep and had two RBIs as host Cleveland snapped a six-game losing streak.
Yan Gomes doubled twice and drove in a pair to cap a five-run first inning while Ryan Raburn delivered a two-run single in the opening frame as the Indians defeated Chicago for the seventh straight time at home. Danny Salazar (1-3) yielded five runs (three earned) and seven hits while striking out six in five laborious innings.
Jose Abreu hit his major league-leading 11th home run, Alexei Ramirez had two hits to raise his American League-leading average to .356 and Adrian Nieto recorded three hits and an RBI for the White Sox. John Danks (2-2) fell to 5-10 against Cleveland after allowing eight runs and 10 hits in five innings.
Cleveland posted a season high for runs in an inning when it took a 5-0 lead in the first, which started with Santana's one-out RBI double. Chicago answered with three in the second, highlighted by run-scoring singles from Alejandro De Aza and Nieto, before Santana belted his third homer in four games in the second.
Abreu golfed a 3-2 pitch over the wall in left with one out in the fifth to make it 7-4 before the Indians blew it open with four in the sixth to increase their lead to 12-5. Nick Swisher stroked an RBI double with one out and three batters later, Brantley delivered a two-run single and David Murphy scored on a wild pitch with two outs.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cleveland, which equaled a season high for runs (12-6 victory at Chicago on April 12), turned three double plays and it could have been five, but second baseman Elliot Johnson was charged with two errors after dropping a pair of throws before he could make a relay to first. ... White Sox CF Adam Eaton left in the fourth inning after suffering a strained right hamstring while running to first base. ... The Indians placed 2B Jason Kipnis (right abdominal strain) on the 15-day disabled list.
