White Sox 8, Tigers 2
Jose Abreu went 3-for-4 with a homer and John Danks pitched seven strong innings as host Chicago defeated Detroit.
Gordon Beckham and Conor Gillaspie each drove in two runs during a seven-run sixth inning as the White Sox handed the Tigers their third straight loss. Alejandro De Aza and Adam Dunn also had RBI hits as Chicago rocked Detroit’s Justin Verlander.
Danks (5-5) gave up two runs and six hits while winning his second straight outing. Verlander (6-6) was charged with seven runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings while losing for the fourth time in five starts.
Abreu’s second-inning homer and a run-scoring grounder by Detroit’s Torii Hunter represented the scoring through five innings before the White Sox erupted in the sixth. The go-ahead run scored when Dayan Viciedo bounced into a double play with the bases loaded and De Aza followed with a single to right to make it 3-1.
Beckham delivered a two-run single to center to finish Verlander’s night, and the onslaught continued with Gillaspie’s two-run double to right-center field and Dunn’s RBI single to right. The Tigers tallied in the seventh on Rajai Davis’ double.
