Mike Aviles belted a three-run homer among his three hits and drove in four runs, including a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning, as host Cleveland prevailed after squandering a 4-0 lead.
Pinch-hitter Jason Kipnis walked to start the eighth against Rex Brothers (2-3) and was sacrificed to second by Lonnie Chisenhall before Aviles followed by lining a 1-2 pitch to right field to score Kipnis. Bryan Shaw (2-1) earned the victory after striking out three in 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Chisenhall added a two-run shot and had three RBIs for the Indians, who improved to an American League-best 17-11 at home. Trevor Bauer struck out eight while allowing two runs and four hits in six innings and Cody Allen worked around a lead-off walk in the ninth to earn his third save.
Charlie Blackmon's three-run homer tied it at 6-6 in the seventh and he had four RBIs while Corey Dickerson delivered a solo shot for the Rockies, who are 3-11 in their last 14 road games. Franklin Morales extended his winless streak to six starts after yielding six runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Chisenhall chased Morales with a long homer to right to make it 6-2 in the sixth before the Rockies rallied in the seventh. Dickerson hit a low pitch out to right with one out and after Wilin Rosario and DJ LeMahieu (three hits) singled, Blackmon took former Rockie Josh Outman deep to right for his 10th of the season.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado's Michael Cuddyer, predominantly a right fielder and occasional first baseman, started at third for the first time since 2010 while with Minnesota. He fielded all four of his chances flawlessly as the Rockies continue to find ways to replace Nolan Arenado (broken finger). ... Indians LF Michael Brantley went 0-for-4 to snap a 15-game hitting streak. ... Colorado, which leads the National League in scoring at just under five runs per game, has scored 23 while losing seven of its last nine contests.
