Padres 3, Dodgers 2 (12)
Yasmani Grandal delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 12th inning as San Diego edged visiting Los Angeles in the opener of a three-game series.
Alexi Amarista began the inning with a single off Kevin Correia (7-15), who walked Yangervis Solarte and Abraham Almonte before the Padres recorded their second straight walk-off victory on Grandal's two-out single. Tim Stauffer (5-2) worked a scoreless 12th inning for San Diego, which has won three in a row and four of its last five.
Hanley Ramirez homered among his three hits and drove in two runs for the Dodgers, who saw their lead over second-place San Francisco in the National League West cut to 3 1/2 games. Justin Turner recorded his first three-hit game of the season, but Dee Gordon and Carl Crawford were a combined 0-for-11.
The extra-inning drama overshadowed a solid pitchers’ duel between the Dodgers’ Dan Haren and the Padres’ Andrew Cashner, who tossed six innings of one-run ball while striking out eight. Haren allowed two runs (one earned) over six frames and lowered his ERA to 2.45 over his last five outings.
San Diego led 1-0 before the Dodgers pulled even in the third as Turner hit a leadoff single and later scored on Ramirez’s two-out double. The Padres regained the lead on Amarista’s RBI single in the fourth before Ramirez tied the game with a one-out homer off Dale Thayer in the eighth.
