Royals 8, Blue Jays 6 (10)

Omar Infante singled home two runs in the top of the 10th inning as visiting Kansas City rallied to end Toronto’s nine-game winning streak.

Alcides Escobar singled for the third time to open the 10th, Pedro Ciriaco was hit by a pitch and both moved up on Norichika Aoki’s sacrifice bunt before Infante’s single to left. Infante finished with three RBIs, Salvador Perez homered and Wade Davis (4-1) pitched two scoreless innings before Greg Holland notched his 15th save in the 10th.

Edwin Encarnacion belted a pair of two-run homers to give him 16 blasts in May, breaking the franchise record for any month, and Jose Bautista also hit a two-run shot for the Blue Jays. Todd Redmond (0-4) gave up two runs on two hits in the 10th to suffer the loss after closer Casey Janssen gave up an unearned run in the ninth.

Bautista ripped a line drive over the left-field fence for a 2-0 lead in the first before Perez’s solo blast in the second and an RBI ground-rule double by Alex Gordon in the fourth tied it. Adam Lind singled with one out in Toronto’s half of the fourth and trotted home on Encarnacion’s homer in the second deck in left for a 4-2 lead.

Ciriaco doubled in one run before RBI singles by Infante and Billy Butler put Kansas City in front for the first time in the fifth. Encarnacion deposited a 1-0 pitch into the second deck in left again for a 6-5 lead in the sixth, but shortstop Jose Reyes’ throwing error allowed the Royals to tie it with two out in the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Encarnacion’s four RBIs gave him 33 in the month, passing OF George Bell (31 in 1987) for the most during May in franchise history, and topped Bautista’s record of 14 homers in June 2012. … Kansas City named Dale Sveum hitting coach Thursday and moved Pedro Grifol from that position to be the team’s catching instructor. … Toronto starter RHP R.A. Dickey yielded five runs on 10 hits over five-plus innings and Royals RHP James Shields allowed six runs and eight hits in seven innings.
