Phillies 5, Marlins 4

Chase Utley drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth as visiting Philadelphia edged Miami and snapped a six-game slide.

The Marlins took the lead with two runs in the eighth but closer Steve Cishek (4-4) could not hang onto the advantage, walking Tony Gwynn Jr. to begin the frame and surrendering Ben Revere’s single before Jimmy Rollins’ groundout plated the tying run. Utley followed and grounded out to second, scoring Revere with the go-ahead run.

Jonathan Papelbon yielded a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth but held the lead for his 19th save. Jacob Diekman (3-2) allowed Miami to score the tying and go-ahead runs in the eighth but ended up with the win while Cameron Rupp recorded his first two career RBIs for the Phillies.

Kyle Kendrick started for Philadelphia and surrendered two runs in seven innings and left with a 3-2 lead before being replaced by Diekman, who surrendered Casey McGehee’s tying groundout to second. Jeff Baker came on as a pinch hitter and belted a triple to right-center to chase home Giancarlo Stanton and put Miami on top 4-3.

The Marlins grabbed a run in the third on pitcher Brad Hand’s sacrifice and made it 2-0 on Christian Yelich’s single in the fifth. The Phillies put together a rally in the sixth, knocking Hand out with three straight singles before Cesar Hernandez grounded into an RBI fielder’s choice and Rupp belted a two-run double to right.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hand allowed three runs and seven hits in five-plus innings. … The Phillies placed OF Domonic Brown on paternity leave and OF Aaron Altherr was recalled from Double-A Reading. … Philadelphia LHP Cliff Lee (elbow) is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Clearwater on Sunday.
