Odrisamer Despaigne allowed two hits in seven innings as San Diego defeated visiting San Francisco.

Alexi Amarista and Cameron Maybin each had two RBIs as the Padres won for the fourth time in five games. The Giants fell for the fourth time in six contests and are 3 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.

Despaigne (4-7) struck out six and walked one before departing after 98 pitches. San Francisco starter Tim Hudson (9-12) allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.

The Padres loaded the bases in the first inning against Hudson and exploded for four runs. Amarista smacked a double into the right-center field gap to score two and Maybin followed with a two-run single to center.

A throwing error by San Francisco third baseman Pablo Sandoval allowed Jedd Gyorko to reach second to start the third inning. One out later, Seth Smith stroked a run-scoring double into the right-field corner to make it a five-run margin.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Despaigne has allowed one run and eight hits over 20 innings in three starts against the Giants this season. … San Francisco's 2B Joe Panik had both of his team's hits against Despaigne. … Amarista is 7-for-14 with two homers, two doubles and seven RBIs over the past four games.
